Shanghai Sees Unexpected Population

The population of Shanghai has increased unexpectedly with a population growth rate that is higher than Beijing, eastday.com reports.

The primary result of China’s sixth national population census which was conducted last November shows that the population of Shanghai has reached 23 million, said Ding Jinhong, a professor on population research from East China Normal University. Among them, 14 million people have local household registrations.
